160 cm x 112 cm Vertical Drip Painting

This customer originally enquired about a vertical drip painting measuring approximately 130 cm x 100 cm. I mentioned that I had one that was already finished that measured 160 cm x 112 cm. Since it would be supplied to the customer as an un-stretched canvas rolled up, the overall dimensions would be a few cms less once the customer had got it stretched on to a wooden frame. The customer would also have the option of trimming the canvas’ length a little to shorten it, without significantly affecting the overall appearance.

The customer decided to buy this 160 cm x 112 cm canvas. Once the painting was back from her picture framer after having been stretched on to a wooden frame the customer sent me a photo of the canvas waiting to be hung on her wall. She subsequently sent me further lovely photos once the painting was in position on her wall.

Two 244 cm Wide Canvases for a Customer

Some time ago I painted a 244 cm by 112 cm floral landscape. My customer very kindly sent me a photo of this canvas on display in his home which you see here. Then recently he asked if I could paint a yellow star painting that was also 244 cm by 112 cm. The second photo here shows that star painting now hung in his home, on the other side of his landing to the flower painting. Both paintings were supplied as un-stretched canvases, rolled up in strong cardboard tubes.

New Abstract Drip Painting on 178 cm Canvas

I’ve just finished this huge canvas painting. These completely abstract drip and splash paintings are some of my favourite ones to paint. I keep adding layers of colour until I’m happy with the result, creating unique paintings that all have their own energy and character.

I use water-based paints that I dilute to just the right consistency. They have a silk finish to them (approximately half way between matt and gloss) and once dry they are fairly flexible. This means that I can roll the un-stretched canvas up to send to you in a strong cardboard tube. Furthermore, when you then get the canvas stretched over a wooden frame to display it the paint doesn’t tend to crack or flake around the edges of your wooden stretcher frame.

Custom Size Black, White and Blue Flower Painting

My most common size of painting on an un-stretched canvas is 160 cm x 112 cm. Over time I have found that this is quite a popular size for people looking for a large abstract painting. However, it is also possible for me to paint different size canvases, to suit a particular area of wall space that you have.

One of the designs I have features black and white flower stems and various blue flower heads. I was recently asked whether I could paint a similar picture but on a smaller canvas. Initially the customer requested that the un-stretched canvas measures 130 cm wide and 90 cm high. I explained to the customer that once she has had the canvas stretched on to a wooden stretcher frame by her picture framer the final size of stretched painting is normally a few centimetres smaller. We therefore agreed that I would paint an un-stretched canvas measuring 135 cm wide and 95 cm high.

This is the painting that I created for her. It was great to hear from the customer that she has just received this painting from the courier. She’s about to take the canvas to her picture framer to get it stretched on to a wooden frame.

Blue dot and spot seascape on 244 cm wide canvas

Colourful small dots and spots of paint cover this huge painting. I wanted to include lots of blue paint especially. I think it hints at a seascape, but you are encouraged to interpret this painting however you wish. This un-stretched canvas measures 244 cm x 112 cm. Perhaps you have a large blank wall that you feel would really benefit from a big splash of colour? I’m currently working on another canvas of this size. The style of painting is very similar but I think with a sunset-inspired combination of colours. I will add it to my website here when it’s finished!

Yellow Star Painting in a Custom Size

A former customer, who had previously bought a large tree painting, recently asked me if I could paint one of my yellow stars for her. She was looking for a square canvas measuring 70 cm by 70 cm to fit a particular wall space in her home. I was able to make a canvas to that size, stretched over a wooden frame. She collected this painting from me at lunchtime today and also bought a slightly larger yellow flower painting as well. It was lovely to be sent these photos of the paintings now on display in her home.

Canvas Stretching by me in South Somerset for my Paintings

I generally paint my very large paintings on to loose sheets of canvas fabric. In other words, the canvases are ‘un-stretched’. This enables me to send my paintings around the country via couriers, with the canvases rolled up and carefully sent in strong cardboard tubes. I’ve tried sending very large canvases that I have stretched on to wooden frames with couriers but it has not worked that well. Most customers then use a picture framer in their local area to get the canvas painting stretched on to a wooden frame in order to hang it on their wall. A few customers choose to stretch it themselves. I’ve written more about the options for stretching my canvases yourself here.

Alternatively, if you can collect from me in south Somerset, I can stretch the canvas on to a wooden frame for you. You will then just need to add your own picture hook to the back of the wooden stretcher frame in order to hang the painting on your wall. Prices to stretch one of my canvases are normally from about £70 and will depend on the size of the painting. If you’re interested, please contact me to discuss this option.

I would always encourage you to measure your car boot or van space to be sure that the stretched painting will fit in it. Once or twice customers have been surprised at the size of some of my stretched paintings and it has been a struggle to fit the painting in the car! Though not essential, a means of holding the painting still whilst it is being transported in your vehicle can also be useful, such as with elastic cord or rope.

Please note that I only stretch my own canvas paintings and not other peoples’ canvases.

Customer Showcase Photos of Two Paintings

Last weekend a customer collected two paintings from me. He used a van to transport them as the larger painting of the two measures 235 cm wide. The smaller abstract painting consists of a multitude of vertical lines and stripes and the larger painting features a dot and spot style of paint application. Both paintings are very colourful and expressive! I stretched both the canvases on to wooden frames for him so they were ready to hang on his wall – he just needed to add his own picture hooks to the back of the paintings. It was great to hear that their dog is also a fan of the new art! More customer showcase photos of mine can be seen here.

Yellow Flower Meadow Drip Painting

Today I finished this really large flower painting. The canvas measures 195 cm x 112 cm. I’ve dripped a wide range of colours on to the canvas in a vertical direction and this has been followed by lots of dots and spots of paint to create the flower heads. The flowers are predominantly shades of yellow, but with a range of other colours too. In these floral landscapes I normally like the flowers to reach up to the top at both ends and then dip down in the middle. This allows an area of clear sky to be seen in the middle of the painting and creates a sense of space. Very large paintings like this will immediately bring lots of colour in to your room.
