Large Abstract Paintings
A new hand-painted, original painting by me, Rich Gane. Full of colour and vibrancy, this canvas features endless drips and stripes of painting flowing up and down. I like to try to create abstract art with a decorative quality that brings colour and joy to people’s homes. This un-stretched canvas measures approximately: 152 cm x 103 cm (60 inches x 40.5 inches).
Each of my abstract drip paintings is a unique work of art. There are endless different ways of combining colours of paint on a very large canvas like this. This really helps to keep me feeling inspired and enjoying the process of creating each painting. As soon as I finish a canvas such as this I find that I am already thinking about new colour schemes and painting techniques that I want to try on the next canvas. I hope that this helps to keep the paintings fresh and spontaneous.
I’m always keen on experimenting with my art. Normally I paint my meadow canvases with a blue sky but I wanted to see how one of my very wide canvases would look with a vivid pink sky. It suggests a sunset to me but that being said, I do encourage the viewer to interpret these abstract paintings in your own way – there are no right or wrong interpretations! This is a tree painting I finished a few days ago in a new colour scheme. It features lots of orange and brown in the leaf area of the tree, particularly light brown or oatmeal colour. I think these two colours complement each other well. The vibrancy of the orange is balanced with the more natural and earthy tones of the browns. My large original tree paintings are some of my most popular wall art canvases. I hand-paint them to certain colour schemes but each one remains a unique piece of art. I have just shipped a light brown tree painting to a customer that will be given to her sister for her 40th birthday present.
This very wide (244 cm) painting has orange as the main colour for the flower heads. The flowers sweep up to the top at either end of the canvas. It’s a really vibrant and uplifting hand-painted piece of original wall art. I also paint similar flower meadow canvases with different colour schemes for the flower heads.
I decided to finish this painting with layers of lilac, white, orange and yellow. It mainly features numerous dots and spots of paint but there are also some longer drips and streaks of paint that help to add contrast and spontaneity. This un-stretched canvas measures 244 cm x 112 cm. My original wall art helps to immediately transform any room!
My ‘starburst’ or ‘sun’ canvases are some of my favourite pictures to paint. I usually paint them on either white or black painted backgrounds. This one features a yellow sun on a black background. As well as yellow there are lots of other colours including orange, red and pink. Rays of light stream out from the centre in all directions. There are also lots of small dots of colour all over the canvas, perhaps representing stars in the night sky. I’ve also painted similar starbursts with green, blue and purple as the predominant colour.
This original drip painting is on a really wide 244 cm / 8 feet wide canvas and it is 112 cm / 44 inches high. Subtle changes to the order in which I apply the colours can affect how the finished painting looks. In this case, I added pale blue quite late on which has softened the overall appearance. In addition to all the other colours, yellow helps to add warmth and the white paint helps to provide highlights and ‘tie’ the painting together.
I was particularly pleased with the balance of colours in this blue flower drip painting that I finished yesterday. The colours of the flower heads are nicely balanced with the greens and other colours in the flower stems and grass below them. As in this canvas, I generally like the flowers to sweep up either side of the painting and have the central area slightly lower. It’s as if the viewer is then looking through the painting in to the distant horizon.
This un-stretched canvas measures 160 cm x 112 cm.
It was really fantastic to receive these two photos from a former customer of mine recently. They did a superb job of framing my original flower painting with a double frame around the canvas. I also love how the painting balances the colour scheme of the room.
